Low Cost Manufacturing of Polymer Composites

  • Mitsubishi100
Mitsubishi 100; Structure manufactured mainly with resin transfer molding (RTM) method
  • windlens3
Wind Lens Turbines; blades and joints made with vacuum assisted transfer molding (VARTM) method
  • RTM
Fan blade made with resin transfer molding (RTM)
Polymer composite are emerging in a new era where their application spans from aerospace, automotive and marine to energy, biomedical and cosmetics. Reducing the manufacturing cycle of polymer composites without any penalty on performance allows a faster production, lower labor requirements and lower final costs. In PCAM lab, we investigate how we can modify the current or invent new manufacturing methods and study  the manufacturing defects and their influence on the final properties of the composites.
